About the product

Before Sucker Punch painted a game, Yoshitoshi painted a legend.

Tsukioka Yoshitoshi (1839-1892) was the last great master of the woodblock print tradition. Working through the Meiji era, he brought raw emotion and extraordinary draughtsmanship to scenes of ancient Japan — beauty, conquest, tragedy, and moments of quiet humanity that still resonate 130 years later.

His masterwork depicts Fujiwara no Yasumasa, a Heian court noble, playing his flute alone at night beneath a full moon. A bandit follows him through the wind-blown reeds, intent on robbery. But Yasumasa plays on, completely unbothered. The music does what the sword never needed to.

The original triptych changes hands at auction for $30,000+.

Ours is slightly more accessible.

"Some legends were painted before they were played."
